Newbury Pride 2023

We are delighted and honoured to sponsor and support Newbury Pride 2023. As such, and on the 10th anniversary of the legalisation of same-sex marriage, we thought it might be helpful to let you know about the services we can offer to same-sex and queer couples, for all stages of your relationship:

 1. Cohabitation: if you are just about to move in with your partner and would like to establish some ground rules, we can help you draft a cohabitation agreement that outlines how your finances should work while you’re together and if you were to split up. Additionally, it can be difficult to navigate your rights in relation to your joint property should you split up following cohabitation. We are here to advise you, and help you with any litigation that might arise.

2. Pre-nuptial/pre-registration agreements: whether you are planning on getting married or civil partnered, it may be a good time to have a conversation about finances in your relationship. A pre-nuptial/pre-registration agreement can give you certainty about how your assets might be used and divided both during and after your marriage/civil partnership; think of it as a safeguard against arguments further down the line.

3. Adoption: we can help you with applications for adoption orders to make the process go as smoothly and efficiently as possible. This makes your adoption legal, and endows you with the same parental rights and responsibilities as if the child were your birth child.

4. Divorce/dissolution: again, whether you are married or civil partnered, if your relationship comes to an end we can be there to guide you through the process of legal separation. There is little difference in law between divorce and dissolution, other than the terminology used – you have the same degree of protection under each.

Additionally, as a firm offering a wide range of legal services, we are on hand to help if you are buying or selling a house, need to talk about inheritance and/or tax planning, or if you need help with your business. So, if you or someone you know needs sympathetic and practical advice on any aspect of your relationship, give us a call and we would be happy to discuss this with you.

Happy Pride!
